You Take Yourself Wherever You Go – & Your Choices Therefrom:
You can’t run from yourself. The past is still the past no matter how many times you’ve worked it out in your head to mean something new. I once had a psychiatrist recommend that I “move away” from the area because of the manic episode and traumas I had experienced there. Do “fresh starts” of this nature really exist? If I have strong social, medical, and psychiatric supports is it really in my best interest to leave? The answer is no. Wherever you go, you are still with yourself and you cannot outrun the past. People who try to run from problems discover themselves in reoccurring experiences that 100% mimic the original trauma. The reason for these reoccurrences is that consciously or subconsciously you are trying to work through and resolve the old trauma through the adaptive resolution of a similar situation. What worked for me? I got a new phone number and purposefully detached from the people, places (without moving), and things that connected me to the past. I deliberately set a flexible schedule and implemented/developed new habits (journaling reading Quran, gym etc.). I am trying to train myself to diet effectively – I quit soda for example, and now drink sparkling water. Every time I make a mistake I problem solve best Incan for a solution. If I need help, I have developed connections that can help me find answers. They say you become most alike the 5 people you spend the most time with. I am learning to be very selective, and once someone comes into my life that has a positive temperament and outlook, I do my best to keep them in my life. I have always liked people who can make light in dark situations. Humorous, kind and caring people are what I aim for! Good natured people make the roller coaster called life a more enjoyable ride. 🙂 Look at Jordan Peterson on YouTube for more about relationships.
Best wishes to you and those you love,
